Thinking of Ike
It is so very different when a Natural Disaster feels as if it is ‘in your backyard.’ I know it isn’t, and to say so might offend those whose yard it is actually in, however; hearing all the familiar names of islands, towns, beaches, and cities still experiencing problems make it seem as if it is.
I still have pictures on my computer of the last time I visited Galveston Island. We spent the day taking pictures of all of the unique buildings and Island Cathedrals. The Island had such a neat architectural heritage. It even had its own Island Castle! The last time I saw it, the Castle had wreaths and big red ribbons for the Christmas season.
The pictures of the Sea Wall, the ones I am seeing online, are the most amazing to me. I have walked down that wall several times and always wondered if it would actually ‘protect’ the Island like it was supposed to do so.
The first time I visited the Island Jason, Lynn, Trevon, and I ate at the Cadillac Grill, a resturant on the Wall. So far it is the only Mexican restaurant that I have visited that I actually enjoyed the rice! It's gone... a Wendy's sign remains... but that is about it.
Say a prayer for all of the people on the Texas coast. Many of them are without power, water, food, or gas. Many of them will be without some of these things for several more days to come.

Did you notice?
I wanted to take this time to point out the link on the right. This fantastic site has actually been up for some time and created a lot of news. I have visited it a number of times myself. It was my intention to have the link posted before I left for my sabatical but was not able to do so.
The site is a program designed by the United Nations World Food Program. The idea is that this site contributes educationally to developed nations and also contributes through food donations to developing nations. You play an educational vocabulary game and the UN and other major corporations and entities will donate twenty grains of rice for each correct answer. You can laterally donate thousands of grains each day yourself!
I also wanted to say, "Thank you" to those of you who have been asking about me and my family. I had actually just gotten home a few days earlier. I can't say this is the best picture... and I would never wear anything like this in public but yesterday when I went out to get the paper my roommate snapped this shot.
Thankfully, that was enough of a wind blast to make me decide to leave. I am visiting in Wichita Falls and hopefully will get back to work when all of this clears up. Thanks to the people at The Dialogue who have been so generous during this exhaustive ordeal.
Love you all,
Aprelle

The 2008 Darwins
It is official. The 2008 Darwins are out! I have featured the Darwin Awards on my blog before, and though a few might find the humor somewhat tasteless, I find it absolutely hysterical- sad of course… but unbelievable to say the least!
The Darwin Awards are given out each year to members of our human society who remove themselves from the gene pool by some incredibly stupid act that happens to kill them off.
These poor people are awarded a Darwin because they have gifted humanity by not allowing their ‘stupid’ gene to pass from one generation to the next. In fact, one of the requirements is that individuals can only win if they have not spawned any children before their death. In theory, these deaths are helping the human gene pool continue to make great selective gains.
This year even offers a special award that is not given very often- The Double Darwin. Exciting stuff, indeed!

It Will Be Glorious For Sure!
When no heart aches shall come;
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye;
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore;
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see;
And I look upon his face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land;
What a day, glorious day that will be.
There'll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear;
No more sickness, and no more pain,
And no more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me;
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see;
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by his grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land;
What a day, glorious day that will be.
Oh I've got a longing, I'm homesick to go;
To a land without heartache no sorrow no woe;
There's nothing can hold me in this world below,
I'm homesick for Heaven, I've got a longing to go.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see;
And I look upon his face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land;
What a day, glorious day that will be.
