The Art of Falling

First and foremost... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLOGGER!!!

Now... on with the post...

Today at work a coworker of mine fell (she is fine). She fell while trying to subdue a child who was throwing a tantrum and disrupting a classroom. The child tripped her and she fell directly on top of him. Needless to say, I laughed so hard I could hardly stand and had tears in my eyes.

The child, who had to have an accident report filled out because he hit his chin on the table as her body pinned him to the floor, was so shocked afterward at this 'attack' by his teacher that behaved for the rest of the day. No problems whatsoever.

It reminded me of a video I saw several years ago about a woman who fell through a trap door. If you have never seen- it is hysterical. In fact, the woman has appeared on many late night talk shows in response to her many 'fans'. One of which is me- afterall... a fall like that deserves a 'fall'owing.

Anyway... enjoy the video...

Will You?

It is report card time again! Not for school- much too early for that, but for World Vision. This time Shivam sent me a card that could be made into some sort of origami paper decoration that I have yet to figure out.

It's actually kind of funny because I get the feeling that he doesn't really like being made to write or draw on these progress reports. In fact, in his picture this year he seems a little upset at the fact that he was made to take one. He's frowning at the camera- which I think is hysterical. For some reason I just picture him being hauled into his hut by the World Vision regional assistant and being made to endure a few minutes of tedious questions and told to draw something 'nice' for his American sponsor all while hearing and missing the playing that was probably going on outside. Maybe because I have seen that look so many times before from students.

Nevertheless, he is doing well. His health is satisfactory and through the combined giving of myself and those who are sponsoring other children in his village, his community just received a Solar Lamp system to provide lighting in the evening. It is amazing to think that there are people in our world who live so different than what we have always known and are used to.

As I was reading over his card I noticed that his family has grown. He has a new sister. Immediately I began to think how I might be able to up my donation to help his family with this new addition. Once I contacted World Vision, I learned that although I could provide more help to his family, I could instead take a look into their data base of children who had been 'passed over' for sponsorship within the same village. In doing so, my giving would still benefited the same overall community but also provide relief for another family.

I couldn't get passed the first picture. For some reason, there is just something about looking into the eyes of a little child knowing that they have been 'passed over' before that I cannot get away from. I couldn't go any further... I had to pic the first little face I saw. His name is Hasib and he is nine.

There are so many children in our world that are suffering and without adequate living conditions. I cannot think of a better way to teach our own children about giving than to sponsor a child somewhere in our world. Just think of the lessons they would learn: the opportunity to correspond with a child who is less fortunate; to know that their giving is making a difference; to know that they are blessed to be American and have all that they do.

Tupelo Children's Mansion; World Vision; Compassion International- these are all organizations that sponsor children who are less fortunate than others. If you are looking for an organization within the U.S. I would recommend Tupelo- a place for orphaned, misplaced, or unwanted children. I would strongly recommend an organization that goes into other parts of the world as well. What a lesson in responsibility to humanity an organization like World Vision is (which is a great one to belong to). Both World Vision and Compassion are Christian based organizations and do tremendous good.

I believe wholeheartedly in supporting your local church and God's kingdom. Your local church only reaches so far, if you have the ability why not do more? Why not support something that reaches into places that, for political reasons, the church cannot reach to? And if you have children you get a life lesson for free.

When I first signed up to sponsor Shivam he was not yet in school because his family could not afford to send him. Today he is in school and in his recent progress report he tells me that this year he has learned to read. Maybe one day he will pick up a Hindi bible and read truth. You never know.

Will you stop thinking about it, stop contemplating it, stop wondering if you could afford $30 a month and do it? Sponsor a child- if not for them, then do it for you- and if not for you, then do it for your own children.

Camp 09

We continue onward with our sweeps...

Today is all about CAMP... some of the pics are from Crusader Camp and some are from Junior Camp. Both Camps were incredible. My favorite camp- of course- is crusader camp!

This year we took 19 kids... five of them did not have the Holy Ghost and four of them got it at camp. Thank God for such a wonderful time!

Enjoy the pics!

Whale Watching

Alright… here are the best pics… the WHALES!

This time in Boston we went on a whale watching tour off the Cape. It was incredible. I would recommend it to anyone. The day we went the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

Our ship was destined for the open sea but just off the tip of the Cape... a few miles out from Provincetown... we found a mother, her companion, and her calf that were out enjoying a stroll. Just in front of us lay the Atlantic and all you could see for miles in every direction was deep blue water and a big beautiful blue sky.

The whale we saw was named, Nile. She was accompanied by a companion whale (a male whale waiting for her calf to grow so that he could mate with her) and her new calf. The fluke of the whale (the tail) is as unique for a whale as a human’s thumb print. Because of this, the only way to name, identify, and track whales by sight is to use the underside of the fluke.

Nile is named such because on her fluke she has a small black line that resembles the Nile River. When looking at her fluke is is on the left side. You will have to see if you can see it.

I also have pictures of us on the boat- since it took about almost two hours to get ‘out to sea’ and some pics of interesting things on the way. This was by far the most enjoyable activity I did while on vacation.

Enjoy!

Vacation Pics

Today I am displaying just a few of my pics from my vacation. This summer I took about two and a half weeks and left town to visit with family. It was something that I have not done in a very long time and am so thankful that I was able to do so.

I first went to San Antonio with Jason & Julie and spent time visiting my Uncle. We always have a great time and he always takes us out on his boat on Canyon Lake- I LOVE it!

Next I flew to Rochester, New York and spent about a week and a half visiting with more family- mostly my Dad’s family because all but one of my mother’s brothers is in Texas. The last time I was in New York was before my Dad had passed so it was a very different trip- but I think I needed it more than I realized.

When you loose your parents, or at least for me, you sometimes feel ‘unconnected’ in the sense that you seem to have no visible ‘anchor’ tying you to the life that has made you who you are. Feeling lost can be all too easy. It was wonderful to feel ‘connected’.

One of the highlights of the trip was spending time with my grandparents. I have not seen either one of them since my Dad’s funeral and I really enjoyed our outings together. I also was able to take a trip to Boston and New York City with two of my cousins and their families- George & Cindy. Their kids have grown so much since I saw them last- and one of them I had not even met yet!

In Boston we spent about half the day whale watching- which was incredible. I decided to keep the whale photos for another slideshow since I have so many of them. Today, all you will see are snap shots of family, Boston, and New York City.

Enjoy!

x-treme Church

What is x-treme Church? Only the BEST place to be on Sunday morning! It's church... but church taken to the X-TREME! Which means we move faster, sing louder, jump higher, worship harder, and reach for God with everything inside of us.

Here are just a few shots of some of our services this summer... I always intend to get shots of our altar time but I get so busy praying that I never remember to do so... o well... one of these days!

Enjoy!

Sweeps Week!!

Hello blogging world!!

First... the story (because with me there is ALWAYS a story): Most of you know that I took a few weeks this summer and spent some time going to see family and doing some much needed relaxing. I took TONS of pictures (which you will be able to see in this week's sweeps). What you don't know is the reason for my long absence from Blogger.

Shortly before I left for my trip, I decided to open a new yahoo e-mail address because my aol address now gets almost 100 e-mails a day... which makes checking it a horrible thing. It was my intention to use this new address for all of my personal contacts. What I did not know was that Blogger is owned by the same company that owns yahoo and google mail. Apparently once I had created an account with yahoo, blogger automatically took everything from my account and switched it to my yahoo name and password. Of course, I did not know this before I left for vacation.

So... I return from vacation- almost three weeks later- only to discover that all of the pictures I have just uploaded online to display on my blog are useless because I cannot log into my blog. I had no idea what had happened. Only after a few days of trying did I realize what had taken place. The real problem came when I realized that I had no clue what my password was because the new e-mail was a 'spur-of-the-moment' thing and I had no idea what I had used as my password.

So... I tried as many different things as I could (which was a bad idea). Apparently... when you attempt to access a blog with several failed attempts the site 'times you out.' Not too bad... but apparently if you go back into the site a day later and do the same thing it 'locks down the site' (a very different thing altogether). Needless to say... it has taken many help desk e-mails... (did I mention it has taken MANY e-mails) to have arrived at the moment last night when I was able to simply run a test. I was so excited I couldn't even blog about it.

So... here we are... and with no intentions of going anyway (after all FB is to blogging like movies are to books... visually appealing for the easily pleased but nothing like the real thing). Now that I am back I am jumping head first into the planned sweeps week!

My fist set of pics comes from our summer field trips with our kids in July. I hope you enjoy!
